Making Delicious Healthy Choices at a Unique South Bay Staple
Riviera Mexican Grill, best known by locals as “The Riv,” first opened its doors in 1996. The walls of the restaurant are filled with South Bay legends, and it’s common to spot a professional surfer or paddle-boarder eating one of their famous fish tacos. The Riv is a place where locals meet to discuss the community and keep in touch with old friends, and it was voted the 2022 Daily Breeze Readers’ Choice for Best Mexican Restaurant in the South Bay.
Blue Zones Project Approved Restaurant
Riviera Mexican Grill joins more than 100 Blue Zones Project Approved™ Restaurants and Grocery Stores in the Beach Cities that have optimized their environments to nudge customers to make healthy choices. Riviera Mexican Grill completed a designation process in July 2022 and followed a series of evidence-based actions to make healthier choices easier for customers, including but not limited to:
- Pricing entrées with a plant-based protein lower than meat entrées, such as the delicious Vegan Tacos.
- Offering a vegetable, fruit, 100 percent whole grain or salad as the default side dish selection for all applicable menu items.
- Not placing a saltshaker on the table unless requested.
- Allowing customers to request any entrée grilled, baked or broiled rather than fried.
