More than 1,000 strong, our network of volunteers form the backbone of Beach Cities Health District (BCHD). Diverse, motivated and talented, BCHD volunteers have the opportunity to work in a variety of community-focused programs and play an integral role in improving the health and well-being of Beach Cities residents.
While the COVID-19 pandemic has changed BCHD operations significantly, volunteers have stepped up to support the community by running errands for essential supplies, delivering meals and making check in calls to isolated and vulnerable residents, increasing food security, connection and reducing social isolation from a distance. We also have volunteers assisting at the Redondo Beach testing site and also calling individuals who tested positive for COVID-19. We are fortunate to have committees, volunteers and interns assisting with special projects virtually as well.
Featured Volunteer Opportunities
Beach Cities Health District (BCHD) received generous responses from our community call for medical and non-medical volunteers to assist with COVID-19 community support. Due to the overwhelming response, we are currently reviewing applicants for placement in these roles on an as-needed basis. If you would like to be considered for placement, please fill out our interest list.
We are still in the process of working with our partners to implement this. We will need medical volunteers for administering vaccines, and non-medical volunteers, for a variety of roles such as traffic control, computer administration, etc. We request a commitment of at least one half-shift per week for at least 3-6 months.
BCHD is running a drive-through COVID-19 testing site in partnership with Los Angeles County. Medical volunteers instruct and monitor individuals self-administer the test to ensure the person correctly completes the COVID-19 test. Non-medical volunteers can assist with computer administration or traffic control. If interested, we can move forward with completing the necessary steps to volunteer and get you scheduled to come out and assist immediately. We request a commitment of at least one half-shift per week for at least 3-6 months.
COVID-19 POSITIVE RESULTS CALLS:
When we receive the results of those who have tested positive after being tested at our site, volunteers (volunteers with medical backgrounds or experience with contact tracing highly preferred) can call these individuals to notify them and follow up with critical information for these individuals. If interested, we can move forward with completing the necessary steps to volunteer and get you scheduled to assist immediately. We request a commitment of one day per week for at least 3-6 months.
We’d like to thank all of the community volunteers who have reached out to BCHD asking how they can help during COVID-19. We're so thankful for the tremendous response we've received from our Beach Cities Community.
