FREE FITNESS WEEKENDS - Beginning February 10

Free Fitness Weekends is a partnership between Beach Cities Health District and local studios and gyms to make it easier for Beach Cities residents to be healthy and active – all while supporting local businesses and encouraging participants to #SweatLocal.

Last spring, more than 25 local studios offered 250 FREE classes to more than 2,000 Beach Cities residents as part of Free Fitness Weekends.

Beach Cities Health District is a public agency with a clear mission: creating a healthy beach community. We have provided free community fitness for six years, and are now expanding our efforts to include other fitness partners in the Beach Cities.

Yin/Yang/Yin
Yin/Yang/Yin is a yoga class that combines 2 types of yoga. Yin is a type of yoga that involves deep long stretches using props (in order to make it more restorative to the body) improving mobility.  The yang portion of the class is a vinyasa flow style that improves strength and stability.  Together this is the perfect combination class that is tailored to any level student.  Its a real feel good type of class....but don't worry, you'll get to sweat too!

Relax as the evening draws in, with a peaceful blend of deep breath, relaxing stretches and revitalizing poses (Asana). This class combines elements of Yin, Kundalini, and Hatha yoga to leave you feeling relaxed, yet spiritually awakened. Suitable for all levels, as Asanas may be modified as needed. No advance registration required.

Yin/Restorative Yoga
Yin Yoga utilizes yoga poses to compress the body and tap into acupressure points and meridians to reach down deep into the connective tissues and inner organs. This practice helps to nourish and awaken the subtle energy body (chi) and move beyond the muscles. This meditative and expansive practice is slow-moving and close to the ground. In a Yin Yoga class, we will typically hold poses for 3-5 minutes, allowing you to immerse in your breath, completely relax into the shape, and explore the “felt-sense” of your yoga experience. This class is great for beginners and those who are looking for a gentle, relaxing, and stretchy practice. All students are welcome and no prior yoga experience is required.

This class is based on the Hatha practice and is great for beginner, but also holds the space well for a pro yogi. All of our Community classes are taught by Soho Teacher Training Graduates. This class sequence starts the integration of breath to movement and mindful alignment. Whether that be intermediate or the experienced yogi this class will cover the basics of a slow flow class and strong holding postures. This class will include Sun A, Sun B, strong standing postures, the break down of beginning arm balances and backbends polished off with a well deserved surrender series all in 60 mins
