Free Fitness Weekends

Free Fitness Weekends is a partnership between Beach Cities Health District and local studios and gyms to make it easier for Beach Cities residents to be healthy and active – all while supporting local businesses and encouraging participants to #SweatLocal.

Last spring, more than 25 local studios offered more than 100 FREE classes to more than 2,000 Beach Cities residents as part of Free Fitness Weekends.

Beach Cities Health District is a public agency with a clear mission: creating a healthy beach community. We have provided free community fitness for six years, and are now expanding our efforts to include other fitness partners in the Beach Cities.

Bionic Circuit
This is a higher intensity cardio version of our popular Bionic Circuit class! It embraces a wide range of equipment and movements for a complete full body workout including strength training, abs, and cardio! Time will fly as you work your way from station to station with Cardio Bursts intertwined throughout the workout!

G.I. Joe  Beach Bootcamp
G.I. Joe Beach Bootcamp is a fun way to exercise at the beach and get in great shape. Joe Charles' workout is designed to help students lose weight, tone bodies, build endurance, and connect with others interested in their health. The co-ed class meets on the Manhattan Beach Pier. All levels welcome. Bring a towel & water bottle.

HIIT is the most effective workout because it combines intense work followed by rest and recovery. Our one hour HIIT workouts incorporate cardio and strength equipment into a one hour class that will get you in the best shape of your life. We provide the latest equipment and a variety of HIIT training to keep your body guessing. Our classes are designed for all levels. Beginners are given weight and cardio modifications. Advanced clients are challenged to the highest level of fitness.

Poise Signature
You can do anything for one minute. Our Signature class cycles through 10 different rounds of our Strength, Functional Movement and Cardio exercises, which address the body from the Purchase Viagra inside out. This class is perfect for anyone looking to maximize their hour, and their results. Modifications happily offered.

Hath Yoga + Aromatherapy is a gentle yoga classes that introduces basic  yoga postures with the use of essential oils to enhance holistic well-being and improve physical and emotional symptoms of discomfort. This is a slower paced class that holds the poses just few more deep breaths to allow your body to open up slowly. You will leave class feeling longer, looser, and more relaxed.

A calming, peaceful, stress-relieving yoga class to stretch, strengthen and open the body gradually. Emphasis is on building awareness of the breath and the body. Poses are practiced at a slower pace with attention to alignment and detail. Recommended for all levels looking to slow down the practice in a soothing and relaxing environment. Benefits: relieves stress, increases flexibility, calms the mind, and strengthens the body.

Allegiate Strength
An athletic strength and fitness program for experienced and intermediate fitness enthusiasts. This 60 minute session includes a full warm-up, mobility/flexibility work and an athletic strength training session.

This yoga practice is challenging but the movements are designed to be accessible to everybody. This is a fun, strong Vinyasa class that utilizes a combination of dynamic movement, static strength, stability, endurance, and flexibility all rolled up into a 60-minute flow.

Kids Yoga on the Beach
Drop your kids off at the Hermosa Beach Pier with Breathe & Learn founder, Joanie Plake, for an hour of breathing, yoga poses, games and relaxation.  A morning of yoga and fun on the sand is the best way to kick off the weekend!  Classes are appropriate for ages 5 and up.  Parents are welcome to join.

This is an all level class as there is something to learn for the beginner and experienced yogi!

Body Barre
Body Barre is a fusion class, combining elements of some of our most loved signature classes here at Barre Hub.  Prepare for a full body workout, focused on improving stregth and tonality of both minor and major muscle groups (abs, arms, legs, glue, etc.), while also drawing your heart rate up through low-impact cardio to increase metabolism, burn fat, and increase cardiovascular function. This class uses certain ballet-based elements, but be assured that no dance background is necessary. ALL are welcome at this barre. Make sure to bring a mat or full-length towel, some water, and of course friends and family.

Vinyasa Yoga
Start slow setting an intention and foundation for the class with, pranayama (breath work).  Slowly move onto energetic form of yoga where students fluidly move from one pose to the next while connecting their breathing to their movements.  Let's flow with the basic yoga postures, and appreciate a healthy sweat as we go through sun salutations, standing postures, hip openers, core strengthening; perhaps some arm balances, back bends, as well as inversions.  Benefits: builds internal heat, increase stamina, strength, and flexibility, as well as stress reduction.

Self Defense Using Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Self-Defense using Jiu-Jitsu: Learn the basics of Jiu-Jitsu while learning how to defend against a much larger attacker. Workout involves full body movement against your own body weight which slims and tones the entire body. This is a wrestling type workout where you learn to manipulate the joints in ways which effectively control & stop an attacker from causing harm to yourself or others.

Kids & Family Yoga
Yoga for kids (age 3 -10 years old) and parents offers many possibilities to exchange wisdom, share good times, and lay the foundation for a lifelong practice that will continue to deepen.  City life can take a toll on even the youngest yogis at heart. Help your kids unwind from the hustle and bustle of daily activities with a calming, centering, and stimulating session of yoga. Kids yoga classes are very different from adult yoga classes.  Kids get a chance to have "play time" using yoga games. The techniques used in kids classes can greatly help children relax, concentrate, reduce impulsiveness and grow compassion. Children trained in these techniques are better able to manage emotional upsets and cope with stressful events.
