LiveWell Tots

Beach Cities Health District's (BCHD) LiveWell Tots program is a comprehensive obesity prevention program developed specifically for pre-school aged children.

Through nutrition education lessons incorporating mindfulness-based learning and activities, hundreds of Beach Cities preschoolers are improving their overall health and well-being.

The primary goals of the LiveWell Tots Program include, educating preschoolers on nutrition and mindful eating, increasing healthy eating behaviors and positively impacting both teachers’ and parents’ self-efficacy to instill healthy eating behaviors in their students. The program accomplishes this by training pre-school teachers to deliver 30-minute nutrition lessons in the classroom, focusing on food groups, healthy eating behaviors and mindfulness.

The LiveWell Tots Program Learning Modules Include:

  • Module 1: Mindfulness
Students learn the importance of mindful behaviors including using all of their senses when eating and identifying signs of hunger.
  • Module 2: Fruits and Vegetables
Students learn about the different parts of a plant that they can eat and how they are grown.
  • Module 3: Farm-to-Table
Students learn how food is grown and to appreciate the work that it takes to grow fruits and vegetables.
  • Module 4: Food Groups/Eating From the Rainbow
Students used the MyPlate method to learn the different food groups and discuss how to eat from the rainbow.
  • Module 5: Physical Activity
