Every December, the Beach Cities Health District distributes gift bags to low-income, disabled adults in the community. If you are interested in workin on the project or contributing financially (each bag costs $20 to assemble), call Kerianne Lawson at 310-374-3426, ext. 133.
You may also purchase Entertainment Books© to support the Holiday Gift Bag project. A great holiday gift, books are $30 at the front desk of the Center for Health and Fitness and the Community Care Services office. All proceeds benefit the project.
Peer Counselor Training
A Peer Counselor is a contemporary who has received specialized training in listening without advising to assist clients who need emotional support from time to time. Peer Counselors provide a safe environment for processing client's feelings and life transitions as well as a nonjudgmental "ear" that family and friends may not be able to provide.
