Incumbents win new terms on Beach Cities Health District board

By Megan Barnes, Daily Breeze

A slate of incumbents easily secured new terms Tuesday on the governing board of the Beach Cities Health District, a preventive health agency serving Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach.

Vanessa Poster, Jane Diehl and Lenore Bloss held onto their seats with 33.1 percent, 29.4 percent and 25.9 percent of the vote, respectively.

First-time candidate Vish Chatterji, a tech executive and holistic wellness advocate, finished last with 11.7 percent.

The Beach Cities Health District was formed 60 years ago to manage the former South Bay Hospital and now sponsors a variety of community health programs and initiatives.

Poster, a nonprofit consulting firm owner, was first elected in 1996. Diehl joined the board in 2014 after serving on the Redondo Beach Unified School District board, and Bloss, a Redondo Beach harbor commissioner, was appointed last year to replace the late Robert Grossman.

The agency is exploring how to curb teen drinking and drug use, and possibly building a senior living center on its Prospect Avenue campus. It’s also in the midst of a change in senior management. Last week, former Hermosa Beach City Manager Tom Bakaly took the helm of the organization after the retirement of Susan Burden, who was chief executive officer for more than a decade.
