Help Spread the ‘Streets for All’ Message
Thursday, October 6, 2016

Dozens of BCHD volunteers went door-to-door all along Prospect Avenue to pass out educational materials and lawn signs in support of safer streets this past Saturday.

Call it a safety blitz on a college football Saturday. This past weekend, more than 60 volunteers turned out for Beach Cities Health District’s (BCHD) community door-knocking rally to help spread the message of safe “Streets for All” to residents along Prospect Avenue – a high-traffic commuter corridor that cuts through six school zones and impacts more than 5,500 students in Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach.

The volunteers, ranging from local principals and elected officials to concerned parents and students, passed out 700 lawn signs – baring safety messages about the rules of the road – to residents eager to display support for creating a safer environment for local children walking to school, bicyclists, people with disabilities, older adults and drivers alike.

But BCHD CEO Susan Burden wants people to know the campaign is far from over.

“As residents, we all share the responsibility to make Beach Cities streets safe for everyone, including those who use active transportation,” said Burden. “By creating safe spaces where people of all ages and abilities can walk, bike, scoot and stroll without fear, we put our entire community on the road to better health and safety. But we need the support and involvement of residents to make Streets for All a reality. That’s where the rubber meets the road.”

Residents can get involved with BCHD’s “Streets for All” campaign in a variety of ways, including by:

• Volunteering with the campaign to support outreach efforts and programs, including the Walking School Bus.
• Signing your elementary school student up for the Walking School Bus program.
• Sharing Streets for All messages on social media using #StreetsForAll and tagging BCHD on Facebook (Beach Cities Health), Twitter (@BCHD) and Instagram (@BeachCitiesHealth).
