Preventive Care during COVID-19

As sectors reopen during COVID-19, many are wondering if it’s safe to visit their healthcare provider to seek preventive care like annual wellness checks, regular health screenings and treatments. Providers, clinics and hospitals are open and have safety standards in place to ensure they are following infection control protocols with the health and safety of patients and staff at the forefront.

It’s important, now more than ever, to continue with essential, preventive care. Preventive care and routine vaccinations are important for children and adults. For more information on vaccinations, visit bchd.org/vaccinations.

Don’t Put Your Health on Hold

Providers have many options to help keep your health on track.

1) Schedule an appointment to see your healthcare provider in-person.

2) Schedule a telemedicine appointment. These appointments are completed virtually, from the comfort of your home, by either phone or video.

If you are experiencing any symptoms consistent with COVID-19, it’s best to call your healthcare provider first. For more information on COVID-19, visit bchd.org/coronavirus.

If you schedule an appointment to see your healthcare provider in-person, here’s what you can expect:

Prior to your visit:

  • You may be asked to complete paperwork and check in online. This will minimize physical interactions at the office.
  • The office may call you the day before your visit to ask you COVID-19 symptom screening questions.

At your visit:

  • Wear your face mask for the duration of your visit, unless your provider asks you to remove it.
  • Upon your arrival, you will be pre-screened and asked to answer COVID-19 symptom questions as you did on the phone. Your temperature will be checked.
  • You may be asked to wait in your car, instead of the waiting room, to adhere to physical distancing requirements.
