More than 60 full-time and 140 part-time staff and instructors at Beach Cities Health District, the Center for Health & Fitness and AdventurePlex help deliver evidence-based health and wellness programming to the residents of Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach. Together, this incredible team of employees comprises the largest preventive health agency in the nation.

It’s gotta be fun! How else can you sit on those bike seats for 60 minutes? Debbie started spinning 10 years ago and is enthusiastic about sharing her passion for it. To her, it’s one of the best single forms of exercise anyone can do.  Debbie loves seeing the transformation from the top of the class to the end. She also rides outdoors on weekends and takes circuit/weight classes at CHF during the week for strength and balance.

Janie Lowrie

Get ready to kick some major butt to some fun and energetic music if you want to take a kickboxing class with Janie. Her class will give you a high intensity workout that’s sure to burn tons of fat and calories. When she’s not teaching kickboxing, Janie enjoys soul surfing, basketball and yoga to stay active.

Sabrina Almeida

Sabrina is certified in group exercise and cycling through the YMCA and also holds certifications through Stott Pilates (mat and reformer), Turbo Kick, the Aquatic Exercise Association and the Arthritis Foundation. In her spare time, Sabrina enjoys capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian martial art.

Mark Bastarache
Group Exercise Instructor

Teaching in a boot camp style but with a fun, energetic attitude, Mark likes to push people to their limits. During class, Mark will constantly walk around the floor watching the students and correct their form and challenge them by bringing heavier weights, doing longer reps, and simply making them work harder to stay healthy and in shape.  If you want to reach your goals faster, a class with Mark will surely get you there.

Mary Parker
Group Exercise Instructor

Mary has been teaching group exercise for more than ten years and holds a Primary Group Exercise Certification with the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America.  She has always enjoyed physical activity and looks forward to making her classes fun, motivating and challenging for everyone. Body sculpting and step aerobics are among her favorite classes to teach. She has competed in weight lifting competitions and recently added cycling to the list of outdoor activities she enjoys doing. Mary loves shopping and spending time with her family when she's not teaching or working out.

Sheila is known for leading a fun class with a caring attitude. Her classes are geared towards the client’s needs, but don’t let this fool you—you will get a workout! Sheila has 15 years experience as a fitness instructor.

During her more than 25 years of experience in the fitness industry, Bee has competed at the professional level in boxing, bodybuilding and powerlifting. She is also ISSA-certified and Zumba® certified.

Manuela Schraner
Group Exercise and Pilates Instructor

Manuela’s passion is helping people find the results that they are looking for, as well as helping them find the healthiest, most balanced place for their bodies and applying that knowledge to their everyday lives. While she was a spinning instructor with Schwinn, Manuela began to search for another way of strengthening her core and discovered yoga and Pilates. She soon became certified in Power Yoga, Pilates and Fitness with SAFS School for Fitness and Aerobics in Switzerland. Her love for teaching and inspiring her clients to create greater strength, freedom of movement, wellbeing and confidence fulfills her life.
 
When she is not teaching Manuela enjoys the beach, walking, traveling and spending time with her family and friends.
